August is a great time to catch a bunch of fish! Yeah, I know it is a little warm but the fishing can be outstanding. Tarpon, snook, redfish, trout, mackerel, snapper, grouper, tripletail, cobia, sharks and permit have all been caught on recent charters. How is that for some variety!
Tarpon fishing has been outstanding lately. I have had a number of double digit days and the fish don’t seem to be going anywhere. Crabs, threadfin herring and ladyfish have all been working well for live bait. The really cool part is how many fish I am catching on artificial! DOA Baitbusters and a variety of swimbaits have been wrecking them.
The permit fishing on some of the nearshore reefs continues to be pretty strong. A lot of fishing in the 10 lb.- 15 lb. range with a few well over 20lb. Live crabs have been the best bait by far but they are getting tougher to come by. While fishing for nearshore I have also been catching a number of mackerel, bonito and few nice snapper.
Tripletail have also been around consistently you just have to do a little searching. Once you find them they have been eager to give you a fight and they are awesome on fish tacos!
Snook fishing is also outstanding. 30-50 fish days are pretty common. Most of the fish are in the 20″-25″ range with the occasional 30″ plus fish.
Well that’s all for now!
