Despite all of the news you have heard about the “RED TIDE” the fishing is still very good! Tarpon, snook, redfish, jacks, pompano and snapper have all been coming aboard on recent charters. The action has been excellent and I have been putting together some really solid trips.
The late season tarpon action continues to provide some heart stopping action. Everyday is different but when the bite is on it has been epic. Most of the fish are averaging around 80-100 pounds but I have caught a few studs over the 150 lb. mark. Using a combination of both live bait and artificial has been producing some sold action.
The redfish action has really picked up in the last few week. I have found a number of nice schools and scattered fish on both low and high tides. The reds have been averaging between 24″ and 34″ inches and weighing as much as 15 lbs. This is just the beginning of the fall “Redfish Run” and it should get better and better!
The snook fishing is really picking up all around Charlotte Harbor. I have been averaging 30-50 fish a day with fish up to 38″ and weighing over 15 lbs. They are awesome fighters and one of my favorite fish to target.
The Pompano action has been some of the best I have seen in years. I have had many 30 plus fish days recently and the action seems to be getting even better. If you have never had the pleasure of catching a pompano they are outstanding fighter and wonderful table fare.
Snapper fishing has also been excellent lately. most of the fish are in the 12″ range with a few bigger ones mixed in. If you like to eat fish there is nothing better!
