As July comes to an end and August arrives the weather is hot and so is the fishing! The Tarpon are chewing, the reds are starting to school up, snook are in the passes and snapper are all over! All in all, we are catching fish and keeping the rods bent.
August Tarpon Eating It Up!
The tarpon fishing action is still going strong! The big schools have broke up but lots of fish are still hanging around Boca Grande pass,the beaches and the upper harbor. Artificial baits like DOA Baitbusters and Storm swim baits have been very effective as well as live-bait. If you want to catch a tarpon it not too late!
Redfish are finally starting to school up and I am seeing more and more over the past few weeks. I have had quit a few 20 plus fish days recently and they are averaging 25″-30″plus inches and weighing from 5 lb. to 15lb. I’m not seeing a ton of schools yet but that is just a matter of time and August is when it really starts to get good!
Snook fishing has been very good lately as well. I have had multiple 20-40 plus fish trips recently. Most of the fish are still averaging a 22″ -26″ but I have had quit a few fish well over 30” and weighing as much as 20 lbs. It’s August and the snook have gathered around the passes and beaches as they prepare for their annual spawn. Scaled sardines, pinfish and grunts will, with out a doubt, be the baits of choice for big snook in August.
The snapper fishing is outstanding this year! Every wreck and piece of structure around seems to have a load of snapper on it. Most of the fish are in the 1 lb-2lb range and nice limits have been pretty easy to get. If you like to eat fish there is no finer table fare!
