Sorry that I have not gotten to Boca Grande Fishing Charters April report until now but I have been super busy! I just received my new Skeeter SX24, which I could not be happier with and I fished a tournament last weekend and won. So between rigging a new boat, fishing a tournament and guiding from sun up to sunset I just haven’t had the time. I have to say Thank You to all my clients old and new that are making 2013 a wonderful year.
Well, it is officially spring! The cold weather that we experienced in March is long gone. The Tarpon are here and as of this posting I have already boated 10. Not bad for only a week. Boca Grande fishing charters are producing tons of snook, redfish and big trout. Spanish mackerel, kingfish, tripletail and cobia have all come aboard as well on recent trips. Needless to say the fishing is very good and the drags have been screaming!
Boca Grande Tarpon Fishing
The 2013 Boca Grande Tarpon season has definitely started. Thousands of Tarpon have already made their way into the Boca Grande area and they have come with an appetite. As the days go by more and more tarpon are going to make the way to Southwest Florida for their annual migration. Everyday I am seeing more and more of the “Silver King”! If you are planning a Boca Grande tarpon fishing charter you better start planning ASAP. I now I sound like a broken record but as of now I am about ¾ booked for May and June.
Boca Grande Fishing Charters
Redfish fishing has continued to stay very good. Multiple schools of fish have made their way into Charlotte Harbor and they have really been feeding. I have had multiple 50 plus fish days recently on Boca Grande fishing charters and that should continue throughout April. Most of the fish are averaging in the 5-7 pound range but I have had a lot of fish well over the 10 lb. mark. Live sardines (aka whitebait), pinfish and cut ladyfish have all been top producers.
Snook fishing has been super good lately. I have had multiple 20-30 plus fish days. Most of the fish are averaging a 22″ -26″ but I have had multiple fish well over 30″ and some over 40” weighing as much as 20lbs. April is a fantastic month to go in search of monster snook. Scaled sardines will, with out a doubt, be the bait of choice for snook in April but artificial and fly will also get their fair share. The 2013 snook season remains closed and hopefully will remain closed for at least a few more seasons so that these fantastic fish can continue to flourish.
Big trout (aka Gators) are continuing to provide some awesome action on Boca Grande fishing charters. I am consistently catching some really nice trout in the 3lb-6lb lately while fishing for reds and snook and the numbers continue to get better and better. I have had some days with over 20 trout over 20”.
The near shore fishing has been on fire! Millions of baitfish has made their way into Southwest Florida and gobs of hungry predators have followed. Spanish mackerel, kingfish, cobia, bonito and sharks are just a few that have been enjoying the abundance of food!
