Happy New Year everyone! I hope that all of you had a great 2012 and an even better 2013. The weather here in Southwest Florida has been just beautiful. Sunny with average highs in the 70’s have been the norm lately and the fish love it. Boca Grande fishing charters have been producing good numbers of big Trout, nice Reds and quit a few Snook. Add in the occasional Sheepshead, Flounder and Pompano and you have got some really good fishing!
Boca Grande Tarpon Fishing

Boca Grande Fishing Charters
Redfish have been fairly active lately. Most of the fish are averaging 20”– 30” and weighing between 4 lbs. – 10 lbs. The number of fish I’m catching has really varied depending upon how much time I’m spending fishing for Trout and Snook. The lower tides have most of the fish going to the deeper potholes and sandbar edges. On the higher tides the fish have been spreading out on the grass flats making them great targets for throwing artificial like topwater, spoons, jerk baits and Mirrodines.
With the warm winter we are enjoying the Snook have really been feeding well. Most of the fish are still staged around or in their winter hideouts but they have been really excited to see a livewell full of sardines. Boca Grande fishing charters are still producing 10-20 fish a day from 22”- 26” and I am also catching a few fish pushing 15lbs. It still hasn’t gotten too cold and the snook are ready to eat!
The big trout have really started to make an appearance lately. I have caught some really nice trout in the 3lb-6lb lately while fishing for reds and snook and the numbers continue to get better and better. I have had some days with over 50 keeper size trout. Most of these fish have been caught on shrimp, live sardines or Mirrodines.
In the mixed bag sheepshead, pompano and flounder have all been coming on board lately. This is not only a nice surprise to catch but it also makes for some really good table fare!
