Wow! That’s all I can say about the last 2 weeks of February and March is going to be even better! Boca Grande fishing charters are producing some crazy numbers of Snook, Reds and Trout. Our charters have enjoyed multiple 50 – 60 fish days and I’m not talking about a bunch of small fish. I’m talking about some real quality. Snook up to 15 lbs, reds over 10 lbs and trout up to 30″! Charlotte Harbor is really turning on and the drags are gonna scream in March.
Boca Grande Tarpon Fishing
The 2013 Boca Grande Tarpon fishing season is right around the corner. As of now I am already over half way booked for April, May and June so if you are planning a Tarpon fishing trip this season you need to start making plans ASAP!
Boca Grande Fishing Charters
Redfish fishing has really picked up. Multiple schools of fish have made their way into Charlotte Harbor and they have really been feeding. I have had multiple 50 plus fish days recently and that should continue throughout March. Most of the fish are averaging in the 5-7 pound range but I have had a lot of fish well over the 10 lb mark. Live sardines(aka whitebait) have been super productive as well as shrimp and cut ladyfish.
Snook fishing has really started to take off. I have had multiple 20-30 plus fish days and I am seeing more and more fish as each week passes. Most of the fish are averaging a 22″ -26″ but I have had multiple fish over 30″. March is generally a fantastic month to go after big snook. Scaled sardines will, with out a doubt, be the bait of choice for snook in March but artificial and fly will also get their fair share. The 2013 snook season remains closed and hopefully will remain closed for at least a few more seasons so that these fantastic fish can continue to flourish.
Big trout (aka Gators) have continued to make an appearance on Boca Grande fishing charters lately. I have caught some really nice trout in the 3lb-6lb lately while fishing for reds and snook and the numbers continue to get better and better. I have had some days with well over 30 keeper size trout. Most of these fish have been caught on shrimp and live sardines.
As we get further into March we should start to see our spring migration of bait fish. Following these baitfish will be hordes of hungry shark, kingfish, mackerel and tarpon. The nearshore fishing should really pick up and I can’t wait to get out there. Unfortunately I’ll have to wait till the end of March when my new 2013 Skeeter arrives.
In the mixed bag sheepshead, pompano and flounder have continued coming on board lately during our Boca Grande fishing charters. This is not only a nice surprise to catch but it also makes for some really good table fare!
