If you’re planning a Boca Grande tarpon fishing trip in 2026, you’re in the right place. Every year I receive countless questions about the Hill Tides, and for good reason — these dates line up with some of the strongest tidal movements and highest concentrations of migrating tarpon of the season.
Hill Tides are driven by major lunar phases that create powerful tidal exchanges through Boca Grande Pass, often stacking fish into predictable travel lanes. When conditions line up, the action can be outstanding.
That said — and this matters — Hill Tides are not the only great days to catch tarpon in Boca Grande. Many incredible trips happen outside these windows with fewer boats and less pressure. Still, if you’re looking to plan around historically productive periods, these are the dates anglers ask for every year.

Hill Tides are periods of exceptionally strong tidal movement caused by lunar phases. These tides often concentrate migrating tarpon in Boca Grande Pass and surrounding waters, making them popular dates for anglers planning tarpon fishing trips.
Are Hill Tides the best time to catch tarpon in Boca Grande?
Hill Tides can be excellent, but they are not the only productive days. Many great tarpon bites occur outside Hill Tide windows depending on weather, water conditions, and fishing pressure.
Do I need to fish Hill Tides to catch tarpon?
No. Tarpon are caught in Boca Grande throughout the season from April through July. Some anglers actually prefer non–Hill Tide days for lighter boat traffic and more relaxed fishing conditions.
How far in advance should I book a Boca Grande tarpon charter?
For Hill Tide dates, booking months in advance is strongly recommended. Prime dates in May and early June often sell out early due to high demand.
