Happy New Year everyone! 2013 was a phenomenal year here at Reelfishing and I would like to thank all of you for your business and I hope you all have a blessed year!
2014 is here and the fishing on Cape Coral fishing charters is pretty good. Lots of big reds have been all over the flats, keeper trout are in almost every pothole and even big snook have all been chewing lately. Add in the occasional sheepshead , flounder and pompano and January is looking like it is going to be a great month!
Cape Coral Fishing Charters
The redfish fishing on Cape Coral fishing charters has been very good lately. The low tides matched with the recent cold fronts has pushed most of the bait fish off the flats. When this happens the reds have to depend mainly on bottom forage such as shrimp and crabs. This is a great time to fish with shrimp and they have been eating it up. I have been averaging 15-20 reds a day and the fish have been any where from 2 lbs. to 15 lbs. Live shrimp has been the best but artificial and fly have both been getting their fair share.
Boca Grande Fishing Charters
The snook fishing on Cape Coral fishing charters continues to be pretty good as well. The mild winter has made the availability of scaled sardines a real difference maker for catching some nice fish. Most of the fish are in or around their winter hideouts and have been more than excited to see a live-well full of sardines, especially in the afternoons after the water temperatures have warmed up a little. ( Snook don’t like the cold!) The fish have been averaging 24″ – 30″ but the occasional 40″ is a real possibility. This pattern will continue as long as the weather stays nice and scaled sardines are available.
The big trout have really started to make an appearance lately. I have caught some really nice trout in the 3lb-6lb lately while fishing for reds and snook and the numbers continue to get better and better. I have had some days with over 50 keeper size trout. Most of these fish have been caught on shrimp, live sardines or Mirrodines.
In the mixed bag sheepshead, pompano and flounder have all been coming on board lately during our Cape Coral fishing charters. This is not only a nice surprise to catch but it also makes for some really good table fare!
2014 is here and Boca Grande Tarpon fishing season is just around the corner. I have had a lot of inquires for the 2014 Tarpon season already and I can’t urge you enough to start planning NOW! I still have plenty of openings but if you want to book specific dates you need to begin making your plans.
