This January has certainly presented its share of challenges, particularly with the chilly weather and strong winds causing fish to move unpredictably. However, with years of experience, I’ve developed a knack for predicting their whereabouts, leading to some successful outings. The Seatrout are quite active this season, while the reds are providing a solid fight. Snook are making impressive jumps, and I’ve been bringing home sheepshead for tacos. Additionally, I’ve managed to catch a few pompano as well.
Seatrout have been consistently delivering an exciting bite lately! Targeting these fish this time of year is a true delight, as they tend to school together, show aggressive feeding behavior, and are delicious on the plate. In recent fishing charters, most catches have ranged from 15″ to 20″, with the thrilling surprise of an occasional “gator” trout over 24″. These fish provide an engaging experience for both kids and seasoned anglers alike! Live shrimp has been working well but the new Gulp Dragontail from Berkley has been and absolute killer!
Sheepshead, also known as convict fish or striped bandits, are an exciting target for fishing charters during the winter months! These captivating fish can present quite a challenge, especially in shallow waters, but their spirited fight makes them well worth the effort. Not only do they put up a good battle, but they also taste fantastic! If you’re craving some delicious fish tacos for dinner, spending time targeting some “convicts” is definitely a worthwhile endeavor!
Redfish have been biting consistently lately, and it’s been an exciting time out on the water! We’ve been reeling in lots of fish in the 20″-24″ range. While they might not be giants, they sure put up a great fight, and we’ve had some fantastic days, landing between 10 and 30 fish! The star of the show has been live shrimp rigged on a jig head—definitely the best bait to use right now. And just look at the pictures! You never know what other surprises you might hook, which makes wintertime shrimp fishing truly thrilling and enjoyable! Get out there and join the fun!
