Fishing in Boca Grande has been nothing short of phenomenal lately! I am consistently having 100 plus fish days on my flats/inshore trips! Redfish, snook, trout and snapper are all getting in on the action and keeping rods bent and drags screaming! That’s not all that is happening the tarpon are still here and chewing like mad, big sharks are all over and Goliath grouper are crushing just about every bait they see. To say the fishing has been good is a huge understatement. If you want to do some serious catching now is the time to go!!
Fishing in Boca Grande is on Fire!
Snook fishing has been outstanding. I am averaging 30-50 fish a day with the average fish being 24″-26″ and weighing around 5lb-6lbs. Big snook have been very cooperative lately as well. I have had a ton of fish in the 28″ to 30″ range and have been regularly catching fish well over 36″. Snook season remains open until the end of November so get out there before it closes!
Redfish have been one of our main targets and they don’t call it “Red October” for no reason. The schools of big reds are all over Charlotte Harbor. As of this post I have 19 schools of reds and I have been averaging 20-50 fish per day for the past few weeks. Most of the fish are well over the slot averaging 30″ and weighing around 10 lbs. Redfish are absolute bulldogs and have been putting my Shimano tackle to the ultimate test!
Tarpon fishing here in Boca Grande has also been producing some crazy numbers! A ton of fish stayed in the Charlotte Harbor are after their spawn this year and they are feeding like mad. I have had no problems getting my clients of some big tarpon and have had as many as 17 hook ups in one morning. Most of the fish are averaging 50 lb. – 80 lb. but I have had a lot of fish pushing the 150 lb. mark. If you want to go tarpon fishing it is not too late!
The snapper fishing continues to be just awesome! Every wreck and piece of structure around seems to have a load of snapper on it. Most of the fish are in the 1 lb-2lb range and nice limits have been pretty easy to get. If you like to eat fish there is no finer table fare!
Trout, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, bonita, Goliath Grouper and big sharks have all been caught on Boca the past few weeks and I don’t see that changing anytime soon! That is why the fall is my favorite time to fish!
