Nestled right at the mouth of the Peace River, Punta Gorda provides easy access to Charlotte Harbor and all its many beautiful miles of mangroves, turtle grass flats and sand bars that line the east and west walls of Charlotte Harbor. This area is considered by many to be “Ground Zero” for the Tarpon spawn in early summer. Every year we see a crab flow around the full and new moons of May and June that drives the Tarpon INSANE! For those of you unfamiliar with this phenomenon, every year we see thousands of Tarpon 80-200 lbs. migrate to Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grande awaiting the “Hill Tide” to push crabs from inside Charlotte Harbor and into Boca Grande Pass. When this happens the Tarpon seem to go into a euphoric state of eating anything that resembles a crab as they fatten up to spawn. If you happen to be here during that time you need to go Boca Grande Tarpon fishing and be ready for some of the best Tarpon fishing in the world.

What about Snook and Redfish?
Oh Yea Baby! We have some of the best Snook and Redfish fishing in the world on Punta Gorda fishing charters in the back-country of Charlotte Harbor. In the early spring months Snook emerge from their winter homes ready to eat and their appetite continues through the summer as they begin to spawn. In late summer large spawning schools of redfish move in from the Gulf of Mexico and take up residence along the edges of the shallow flats. These are the big breeders or “bull” reds. They school up each year for their annual spawn. Most of the schools will have a hundred or more fish and the fish will average around 30 inches, weighing around 10lb-12lbs. And the best part about this area is that we catch Snook and Redfish all year long. Yes, you heard right. We catch Snook and Redfish all year long and wear shorts and flip flops in the middle of winter!
