๐ Boca Grande tarpon fishing
The month of June ended the way it began with some stellar tarpon action around Boca Grande. I had multiple double digit hook up days and no tropical storm to deal with!ย The other upside is that the boat traffic has REALLY gone down this last week, which is awesome. July is looking like itโs going to be really good.
The 2013 Boca Grande tarpon fishing season continues to be just phenomenal.ย Thousands of fish are still here in Southwest Florida, there are large schools still in the pass and beaches and tons of fish have already moved into Charlotte Harbor to feed after they have spawned. These fish will stay here throughout the summer and the Boca Grande Tarpon fishing will be good thru September.
During July 2013, tarpon remained spread across the passes, beaches, and Charlotte Harbor, providing consistent action throughout the month as fishing pressure eased compared to June. While the numbers werenโt as extreme as the early-season bite, the fish stayed in the area well into late summer and early fall, offering steady opportunities across a variety of locations.
This type of summer tarpon behavior is what anglers look for each season in Boca Grande. For current trip timing, seasons, and options, see our Boca Grande tarpon fishing charters page.

Other Inshore Species โ July 2013
Snook fishing was also very strong during July 2013, especially on the days when tarpon werenโt the primary focus. Many trips produced high numbers of fish, with most snook averaging 22โ26 inches and several fish pushing well past the 30-inch mark. Large groups of snook gathered around the passes and beaches as summer progressed, creating excellent opportunities throughout the month. Scaled sardines, pinfish, and grunts were the most consistent baits, though artificial lures and flies also accounted for plenty of fish. At the time, the upcoming September 1st snook season opening raised concerns among anglers, as fish numbers and conditions were noticeably different than in previous years.
Redfish action remained very good throughout July 2013 as schools began to break up and spread out, particularly on higher tides. Many fish pushed tight to mangrove shorelines, leading to some intense battles when hooked fish attempted to bury themselves in the trees. Days with steady action were common, with most redfish averaging 5โ7 pounds and several larger fish mixed in over the 10-pound mark. Live sardines (whitebait), pinfish, and cut ladyfish all produced consistent results during this period.
